Keeping with the 1989 vibe I got some NOS Ultrasonics from Ebay, which briefly were the hot choice for stacked singles back in those days. I gave it a full fret job, a new pickguard, a new Floyd and (since I already had one just like it, #43) a different set of pickups/electronics instead of the stock EMGs. They supposedly made 100 of them, even if there´s no documentation that they ever even reached 50, and this one is #3. Anyway, this is a California Pro which was a limited run back in 1989. Valley Arts Guitars was founded in 1975 by Al Carness and Michael McGuire in North Hollywood a suburb of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley. Early models, perhaps 28 in total including this example, use an interlocking neck joint allowing better access to the upper frets. I actually got my hands on this one a few months ago, but it was in a state of neglect and I´ve been bringing it up to speed again an hour here and an hour there. The Valley Arts Custom Pro USA line was introduced in 1987, and available in a full size model 25.5 inch scale and a 7/8th size with 24.75 inch scale.
